French prosecutors conducted searches at the offices of Elon Musk’s social media platform X on Tuesday as part of a preliminary investigation into a series of alleged offenses, including the dissemination of child sexual abuse imagery and deepfakes, according to The Associated Press.
The Paris prosecutors’ office stated that the investigation was initiated in January of last year by its cybercrime unit. The inquiry is examining alleged complicity in the possession and distribution of pornographic images of minors, sexually explicit deepfakes, denial of crimes against humanity, and manipulation of an automated data processing system as part of an organized group, among other charges.
Prosecutors have requested that Elon Musk and former CEO Linda Yaccarino attend voluntary interviews on April 20. Employees of X have also been summoned to provide witness testimony during the same week, according to the statement. Yaccarino served as CEO from May 2023 until July 2025.
A spokesperson for X did not respond to a request for comment.
In a message posted on X, the Paris prosecutors’ office announced the ongoing searches at the company’s offices in France and stated it was leaving the platform while encouraging followers to connect with it on other social media.
